Spice Cabinet Organization

During this pandemic I’ve finally found the energy and gotten in the mindset of organizing and cleaning our new home. We’ve been in this house for almost 2 years now and haven’t had the time to really organize and decorate it like we’ve wanted to. Well if you’re basically locked in your house for a few months then you’re bound to get something done…hopefully.

The first project we tackled was hanging up family portraits and doing small cleaning tasks. Then I decided to start on my kitchen. I’d done my kitchen in the past but there were a few things I wanted to change and upgrade after really getting in the swing of using the kitchen. The functionality was good but not great so I started with my spice cabinet.

Prior to the pandemic I would meal prep on Mondays and would maybe cook another meal or two during the week and the weekend. Well after March I began cooking regularly because we were home around the clock. Since I watch The Food Network all the time, I noticed that the cooks on each show typically use 4 or more spices in their dishes so my spice cabinet began to grow. Especially when I started trying new recipes that I would find on Pinterest or Instagram.

I started out by taking everything out of the cabinet and wiping the shelves down really good and letting them dry. Afterwards I put the cabinet liners back in place to keep my 3 tier organizer from sliding around. Once that was in place I began filling my new spice jars with the designated spices one by one. Shopping on Amazon has been a lifesaver for us during this pandemic because it meant that I didn’t have to go in to stores and shop directly. In fact, most stores were closed so Amazon was really the only option at the time.

Finding these airtight spice jars were a blessing. My kitchen pantry has similar jars for things like pasta, breadcrumbs, and sugar (which you’ll get to see in a later post) so I was excited to stay with the same theme. These jars come in a box of 12 so I ordered 2 boxes. They are about 3.4 oz so you may have a little seasoning left over after filling them up. I really love the fact that the jars came with pre-printed labels as well as blank labels and a funnel.

Because I’m fancy, I had my friend from Annlettered calligraphy the labels that weren’t pre-printed. She has beautiful handwriting and has done work in my kitchen before. In fact, she wrote the spice names on my previous spice jars (see below), the welcome chalkboard sign in my kitchen and other projects. As you can see they turned out gorgeous and very organized so I’m able to find everything easily during the process of cooking..
